ReactOS – Just how good are you right now ?

As of writting this blog post that ReactOS is in 0.3.6 (Alpha) and already, it looks like it will become a good operating system. The reason I will call it a good operating system is the fact that it is an open source clone of Windows. Now, I ain’t one to like Windows but lets face it, most people use it so it is good for something and it is about time someone decided to clone it.
If everything goes well then ReactOS might even replace Windows one day but enough about a time today, lets focus on the now. ReactOS is being designed so that ultimately it will run any Windows Software and hardware. Right now, it is doing an okay job.

Below, I have some screenshots of installing ReactOS (Within VirtualBox OSE) and having a look at some of it’s features (Now remember, it ain’t done yet so don’t judge it all based on this).

Click Read More for screenshots.

A screenshot showing VirtualBox already setup ready for ReactOS.

Loading ReactOS’ installer.

Setting up the lanaguge and crap here.

Once again, setting up ReactOS. Basically the boring parts in Windows 🙂

Okay, after skipping all the boring installation crap, here we go. Bootloader, nothing fancy – Just like Windows.

Still booting up (Only took a few seconds to get pass here)

Boot up screen – Pretty 🙂

Right, into ReactOS start up config. Looks like Windows and much the same so far.

Some thanks to other Open Source Products that seems to have made ReactOS.

A little place to put your name etc – Just like Windows (Just no needed licence key ;)).

More config stuff – Still like Windows in all ways 😀

Finally, onto the desktop. Looks just like Windows. Time to have a little look around.

ReactOS control panel. Looks like Windows again, doesn’t it 😉

The Download! that comes with ReactOS so that people can download needed software. Internet worked in VirtualBox.

Now time to see if it can run some Windows software. In order to see if it can, lets install and run South Park 😀

So far, so good 🙂

Yep, so far so good. Finally, it seems to be installing or is it ….

Woot, just like Windows 😀

I have had many other screenshots but to lazy to upload them 😛

But honestly, I have moved away from Windows and this will never replace my little Linux box. However, the best of luck to the developers of ReactOS. You can download ReactOS by clicking “here“. Just know that it is still in DEVELOPMENT and therefore might not work in the way you need it too but you might as well give it a try.

I, Matthew, hasn’t recieve anything in posting this blog post. It is mearly to show that there is such a project out there.

Need to reference?
