The ethics of Adblocking

While I would not imagine this is such a heated debate as it once was but I am surprised that ad blocking is still legal in countries. For those that may not know but adverts pay for a lot of web sites to stay online (and not even to profit, I would imagine most sites do not even break even) and ad blocking is a method of changing your browser (or host files etc) so that adverts on these websites are removed so that the end-user can not see them.

Now I can understand why some people may block adverts – there are often annoying flash banners that does not really fit the design of the website but at the end of the day they are there to pay for the website itself. I am quite sure a couple of people reading this will think nothing of it but just imagine that you had a billboard outside of your house on a major road and that every time someone sees it that you earn a couple of pennies that over the day all adds up.

Picture it now that its possible for some people in their cars to “block” seeing that billboard at all which means you do not get those pennies and that the income from that billboard is what keep you in the house that you live in – that’s the same logic with people running websites with their web hosts and to some people actually their very own houses!

I know we all pay for data transfer and not everyone want to waste it on viewing adverts but so does the website you are viewing from as they got their own bills to pay and hell people even put up with adverts on live TV that they pay for but a few adverts on a website they go out of their way to block them and are even vocal in doing so.

At the end of the day removing adverts from a website is stealing their data transfer and while you can claim they have it open for all to view and should be happy that people are seeing their content – well you would not walk into a shop and steal a few pennies from a donation box just because you want some money and sure you can say its nothing alike but it kinda is at the end of the day as you are taking away a bit of money away from the webmaster that they could have earned otherwise.

Although saying all that I am pretty sure we would all love to see flash adverts disappear and if you are using them – do remove them as people zone them out long ago. Replace it with something that people may find useful!

Picking the right host

For the last 8 years I have hosted this very website on so many websites that if Tweaked for your Pleasure was a whore that it would have to many sexually transmitted diseases and likely would be laying on the floor dying while trying to pass on it’s last breath. Picking a right web host is very important as your website WILL depend purely on how good your web host is.

I am sure if you have looked around for a web host before what you roughly check for is speed and price and I would bet that most people will not look for more then that. So today I am going to talk about what I look for in a web host so that if you are looking for a web host that you will not get screwed over.

Just think like a child

Life throws at us many things such as problems, puzzles and many other things that we have to learn to deal with. There are many things in life that needs a great amount of logic to work out or alot of knowledge however logic and knowledge isn’t always enough. I have heard many times from people – “how do I keep my cool when I have to make choices” and this is my answer – I think like a child.

You may be thinking what the fuck but it has always worked for me. Children isn’t bothered by things such as politics, money and much more and when you ain’t bothered by something, the choices you make are no longer fueled by one gains, ones pride. When people grow up then their eyes are opened up to politics, war, terrorists, money and whatever else is out there. The world in a child’s ear that the world is pure, perfect and out there to explore. When someone who has “grown up” makes a choice, it is more often then not, a choice that will only be something that they gain something out of it. Could be a money gain, knowledge gain or an emotional gain but regardless of what they gain, it is still for themselves. For a child, very rarely do they see something for their own gain. I ain’t talking like a child wanting a new toy or something, I am talking about the actual world.
