Hello everyone. This article is basically just a chat about Just a Community which I am sure you may have heard of before. Just a Community is the community forums of Tweaked for your Pleasure that uses bbPress. Now most people may have noticed that Just a Community is based pretty much on an old community of mine and you will be correct and yes, it is based on the original Ellisfamily.tk community forums.

First, we got a short history lesson. Very long ago, I started a forum that was used a hell of a lot and originally, it was hosted on CJB.net but due to problems it was removed and no backup would have been gained from it. Then, I re-opened the forum at Forumer and it was successful. However after a while it was decided that it would be best to move over away from Forumer to my own installation. So, after moving all the content over to my own system it was at this time that I decided to use Invision Power Board 2.0 (or whatever version it was back then) which was a paid forum script. This was used aside with MkPortal and it was also at this time Daniel did come along and helped run it.

Lets be honest, those day was very great. Ellisfamily.tk was a very good community and quite a lot of people enjoyed it. Sure some members was not liked on there but that goes with any community. It was widely used and it was also at this time Adam started learning HTML and made a little fan site for it that went into details about some topics of the community like James Bond (up to today standard this website may no longer even be able to be viewed in browsers). Ellisfamily.tk also had a proxy site which was very known which may of course explain why the community itself kicked off and become quite a success.

Now, I am not sure on why Ellisfamily.tk (later renamed as Ultima Forums) became such a success but it did. I am sure that Daniel played quite a nice role in doing so but regardless of the reason it did become a success. However every success had problems and the same happened to Ellisfamily.tk. It was also during this time that I was also focusing quite a bit on Snat.co.uk (known as Tweaked for your Pleasure) however ultimately, Ellisfamily.tk did finally die off however the community in theory never did. The old Ellisfamily.tk community did move over to Tweaked for your Pleasure and originally used to comment quite a lot and get involved in the website.

But over time, that community did die down and a “core” community was formed and it is these people whom you see today posting articles on Tweaked for your Pleasure and comment from time to time. Now, a new community has evolved from the original Ellisfamily.tk community and it is this and the original I am aiming to get back onto Just a Community.

Now we may not have Daniel with us no more but we still have the community spirit so come down down to Just a Community and have some fun !!!

Well, this will be seen in either one or two ways. You will either be happy that it is back online or you may not be happy that it is online for whatever reason it may be. I am aware that there are a few users that currently doesn’t like the fact it is using bbPress and there will be some users that is happy it is and ultimately, it was my choice so read on.

Now, quite a few of you may have heard that originally Invision Power Board was planned to be used for the new Just a Community – infact some may have seen that Just a Community did use Invision Power Board 1.3.1 for a few days and one or two may have seen the installation of Invision Power Board 3 that was setup ready to convert the IPB 1.3 installation however it was decided against it.

Sure, some of you will debate that IPB3 would have been the best to you but the reason why bbPress was choice was for two simple reasons.

Very light weight

WordPress Intergation (Blog Engine of Tweaked for your Pleasure)

Light weight

Let us all be honest. We have all used a forum before and that most forums gives you – oh lets say 10-20 different ways on how just to set the time ?

The likes of Invision Power Board, phpBB etc have so many different features, quite alot of them you don’t actually use – at least from my experience. Back in the year 2005, Matthew Mullenweg thought the exact same and said – Hey, what if we applied the same like we did for WordPress and do the same to a forum – and thus bbPress was created.

Sure, it won’t have all the features that you have likely used such as private messages or signatures but most of the other features you rarely use such as time zones, displaying the time format in exact time or hell, even features such as attachments.

But the thing is that the whole thing uses the back plugin system as WordPress which basically means – adding anything new is very easy !!!

Adding a personal message system can be done in a few minutes or so and can be added easily. This allows Just a Community to grow in which way the community wants, not what the forum script limits us too – come on, if you ever installed a phpBB mod you know what I mean.

Basically, this means I can change it now we want which basically means over time Just a Community actually becomes what is wanted and not what we think we want with the likes of Invision Power Board. Sure, maybe the theme needs to be changed but of course all that can be changed

WordPress Intergaton

This may actually be one of the most important reasons for why I picked bbPress over the likes of phpBB and IPB. Basically it was picked so Just a Community users can be loaded from Tweaked for your Pleasure database without any hassle and that is exactly how I wanted it.

I wanted Just a Community to use the same users as Tweaked for your Pleasure so that the community of Tweaked for your Pleasure can go on and enjoy Just a Community. I am sure that most people will like it and the others will grow to like it but if there is anything you want see, add it as feedback as after all, this is for the community not me.

I hope you enjoy it and have fun !!!

This is a question I ask you the community of Tweaked for your Pleasure. Before you answer, let me explain why I ask this question. Originally, Tweaked for your Pleasure switched to IntenseDebate as a way so I could use two comment systems for qTranslate which allowed me to spilt the comments into two so that the English comments would not be shown on the Hebrew page and naturally Hebrew was not shown on the English page.

It was for that reason only which made me switch to IntenseDebate in the first place. Sure, it does look good and has some cool features like Facebook Connect but the thing is, with the re-launch of Just a Community that I want the users to be integrated and sadly, with IntenseDebate there is no automatic user syncing which means that those whom signs up to Just a Community (and thus, Tweaked for your Pleasure) would have to sign up again anyway just so they can comment on Tweaked for your Pleasure.

Now, I do not want this. I want it so that you can just sign in on Just a Community and then be logged into Tweaked for your Pleasure and comment without hassle but at the current stage IntenseDebate is at, it would mean each user would have to sign up two times and then sync their accounts. While some accounts have already been setup to sync and that I have also wrote a guide (http://jac.snat.co.uk/topic/syncing-tweaked-for-your-pleasure-user-account-just-a-community) on how to do it, I just do not feel like users should be forced to do it just so they can post on both.

So, here are the options and I am leaving it up to the comment to decide.

Carry on using IntenseDebate and hope that automatic user syncing will be developed.

Use the internal commenting system and add Facebook Connect etc to emulate the features on IntenseDebate.

Use the original WordPress comment system and leave as originally was

So, the choice is yours my friend.

I am sure that you have noticed (and thanks for the e-mail from three people that alerted me or it wouldn’t have been sorted ) that Just a Community went offline. Actually, it didn’t went offline but the site was suspended and I am sure you might be thinking why did it happen if I own the site ?

Well, what happened is when I set it up, I didn’t give it much “bandwidth”. Directadmin (the system that runs it) uses the word bandwidth rather then the actual meaning, data transfer. So, I didn’t give it alot of “bandwidth” and in just six days, that limit was reached.

Just a Community now has enough “bandwidth” to last for a few months guessing it got 50 topics a day and 20 users on all the time

Sorry about that and tomorrow, normal posting on here starts again

While we wait until this snow has flawed, I have checked my e-mails alot less then I normally have done.

However, one e-mail about Just a Community caught my eye and that was people that is using OpenID to login into Tweaked for your Pleasure isn’t able to log into Just a Community.

The first solution would have been to allow OpenID logins on Just a Community but this causes the database to be out of synced. Now, when you log into Tweaked for your Pleasure, you get a cookie set onto your system. This should allow you to be logged into Just a Community as well.

Not everyone wants to do that and I know the idea of OpenID is just so you can have one login, at this time it ain’t possible to intergate the two databases. Now, it is actually possible to log into your account by using a username and password. What happens when you use OpenID here, is that it creates you a local user but uses your OpenID to login.

You are able to work out your Username it created as your username is your OpenID URL. So, lets use mine as an example.

My OpenID is – http://matthewellis.co.cc

From this, my username is matthewellis.co.cc

Once you got your username, click forgot password. As long as you allowed Tweaked for your Pleasure to get your e-mail from your OpenID provider, you will get an e-mail with your new password. Use that password and your OpenID URL to log into Just a Community. By doing it this way, you are still able to use your OpenID here and when I work out how to do it on Just a Community to sync them, you will not need to make any changes at all.

Sorry for this, but it is a technical issue right now.

Please only comment about using OpenID on Just a Community.

As you might have noticed, there has been further changes to Tweaked for your Pleasure.

First, alot of links has been removed from the left hand side that is no longer being used. Also, alot of broken images have now been fixed and they are now reflected on the main site. If any images are missing, let me know and if you have the image, link to it.

There is now a disclaimer and a complaint section. Both sections explains about this blog and the second one tells you what to do if you thing something illegal. I will stress now that it is useless if you disagree with something on a post as that won’t help.

Without further adue, normal posting starts again tomorrow

Oh, why I am at it. Simple:Press is coming offline in a few weeks so if you want to save any PMs etc or copy over any comments, please do so during that time

Also, I am gonna add that Just a Community is coming along nicely and thanks for you, the people that makes what this site actually is.
